3G technology is outdated and no longer meets today’s communication needs. Retiring it allows us to focus on expanding and improving our 4G LTE and beyond networks.

You may be affected if:

  1. You are using a device that does not support 4G LTE with VoLTE for voice calls.
  2. You notice that your phone only connects to 3G for networks for calls, texts, or data.
  3. You receive communication from us (vial email, text, or mail) informing you that your device is not compatible with our upgraded network.

To check if you are affected:

  • Look at your phone’s settings: Check for “4G LTE” or “VoLTE” in your network settings.
  • Contact us: Visit your local store or call 1-800-730-2351 to confirm if your device will work on our updated network.
  • Device upgrade options: If needed, we can help you upgrade to a compatible device.

VoLTE stands for Voice Over LTE (Long-Term Evolution). It is a technology that allows voice calls to be transmitted only over a 4G LTE network and will NOT work over the 2G or 3G networks used for voice communication.

Your SIM card will work if it is compatible with our 4G LTE with VoLTE network. Most newer SIM cards are already compatible, but older SIM cards may need to be replaced to support the upgraded network.

To check if your SIM card will work:

  1. Look at the SIM card type: If your SIM card is older than 2022 or was originally used in a 3G-only device, it may need to be upgraded.
  2. Test in a compatible device: Insert your SIM card into a 4G LTE/VoLTE-capable phone and check if it connects to the 4G LTE network.
  3. Contact us: Visit your local store or call 1-800-730-2351 to confirm if your SIM card is compatible.

If your SIM card needs to be replaced, we’ll provide you with a free upgrade to ensure you stay connected.

non-VoLTE devices will no longer work - even 911 calls after March 5, 2025.

1. Check Compatibility:

Ensure your device supports VoLTE.

2. Enable VoLTE

Go to your device settings and turn on VoLTE. Instructions can vary, so refer to your device’s manual or visit your local store if you need assistance.

3. Test Your Connection

Make a call and confirm that “HD” or “VoLTE” appears on the call screen.

We support a wide range of VoLTE-ready devices. Here are some popular options:

Apple

iPhone 6 and newer

Google

Pixel series

Samsung

Galaxy S5 and newer
