NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS & INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION REQUESTS COMMENTS FROM PUBLIC FOR THE SAN JUAN WEST TELECOMMUNICATIONS TOWER AND POWER LINE EXTENSION

Cellular One Communications and Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) propose to utilize grant money to expand broadband access to unserved/underserved areas in San Juan Chapter of the Navajo Nation, San Juan County, New Mexico through the construction and operation of a 180-foot self-supporting communications tower and installation of 61 feet of aerial fiber. The proposed project will improve wireless and internet communication service in the area and provide improvements for public safety, education, health services, and commercial establishments and residents to meet the public’s needs.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is distributing grants to expand much needed broadband access and adoption to historically unserved and underserved communities. As a result, NTUA is required to submit an Environmental Assessment (EA) for NTIA to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of the proposed project.

All members of the public are encouraged to submit written comments, suggestions, and questions related to potential project impacts, the need for further information on the proposed project, or any specific concerns that need to be considered.
